The civil war had many effects in bad and good ways. Many people were affected by this war. Many people lost family and friends. The country was very different after this war. In many ways too. From slavery being abolished to states being reunited. Here are some effects of the civil war. Three effects that happened were that the federal government became stronger, that slavery was abolished, and that the states were reunited. The first effect I chose is that the federal government became stronger. Before the Civil War was over the states governments had much more power than it did after. Before it was after the Civil War the states were able to make its own laws and many extra things. After the Civil War the states still had individual rights, but the federal government was still more powerful. It was able to tell the states what they have to do and laws that they have to follow. As the text stated in “Effects of the Civil War” “After the war, though states still had some individual rights, the federal government was the most powerful.” People probably felt good and bad about this. People in the North probably liked this and people in the South were probably not happy about this. The second effect that I chose was that slavery was abolished. During the Civil War and before it many people in the South owned slaves. The North didn’t agree with this and that is where the war started. During the war President Lincoln released the Emancipation Proclamation that was to free all slaves, but the South refused. Than after the Civil War, slavery was officially abolished in all states of the United States. All slaves were freed and were allowed to live without someone forcing them to do something for them for free. As the text stated in “Effects of the Civil War” “While the main reason for the outbreak of this war, i.e., slavery, was abolished, the war did leave some blots on the American history.” Northern people most likely liked this, but the people in the South were most likely very mad about this and still wanted revenge. The third effect that I chose was that the states were reunited into one whole country. Before the Civil War states started to separate from the United States. Than the upper part became the Union or the North. The south part became the Confederate States of America or the South. The country was literally split in half. The were fighting each other in a war that decided if slavery was allowed or not. During the war they were fighting each other. They were trying to take each other’s land. After the war they reunited. They became one big country again. As the text stated in “Effects of the Civil War” “The nation was reunited and the southern states were not allowed to secede.”Those were some effects of the Civil War. The effects that I chose were that the federal government became stronger, that slavery was abolished, and that the states were reunited. Know you know how the Civil War made a huge impact. Many people lost people that were close to them. There were many happy and sad times. We could have still had slavery today if the North didn’t win the war. The whole country could have been the Confederate States of America. The men who served in the Civil War were very brave and really affected our country. That is why the Civil War was so important.
