Migration is the relocation of individuals moving from one place to another with the goals of settling, forever or briefly in another area by emigrating, immigrating or forced migration. Usually migration is done over long distances such as from one country to another, or nationally such as internal migration which is done within a country. The amount of people migrating could differ between individual persons, couples, families or large groups of people moving together. Many immigrants leave their country of origin for plenty of reasons, a desire for a better job and income, family reunion, escape from conflicts or simply just a wish to change one’s surroundings. People who leave their homes to a different country/city because of natural disasters or wars may be considered as refugees or, particularly within the same country, a displaced person. A person seeking refuge from political, religious or other forms of persecution is usually described as an asylum seeker (Wikipedia, 2014).

You could tell a countries success and prosperity by studying the number of immigrants who are entering the country from the outside and the emigrants who are leaving their own country. A successful country has lower amounts of natives leaving the country (emigrants) and higher amounts of non-native people getting in (immigrants), this is due to the ability of the country in providing all people’s needs; such as giving them access to safe and clean food and water, offering good job opportunities and salaries, better education, and plenty of entertaining facilities. Such characteristics of a country or a state can grab hold of their citizens and attract citizens from outside. Examples of such countries include the Gulf countries, and some European countries like Sweden and Denmark (The Local, 2017).
People have moved from their home countries for centuries, for all sorts of reasons. Some are drawn to new places by pull factors, others find it difficult to remain where they are and migrate because of push factors. These have contributed to the recent movement of people here but are also the reason why people from here have emigrated to other countries.
