The Internet has Created a Negative Impact to Education
The internet has made the world a small village. Its effectiveness and convenience has been misused in the education sector, therefore allowing it to have a large negative impact on education.
Firstly, the issue of social media, which is supported by the internet, has been regarded as what students are so addicted to. Examples of these social media are WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and the most important of it all, snapchat. Some students spend sixteen hours out of the twenty-four hours of the day, texting and videotaping on the social media. They sleep very late at night and wake up late and tired because the time they are meant to use to go and sleep are wasted while chatting on social media. However, when this type of student goes to class, he or she won’t be concentrating in class but rather sleeping or dozing off. This will make the student not to concentrate in the class and at last it will yield a bad academic performance for the student.

Secondly, texting and the social media is like interacting with someone. In most cases, students don’t type the correct English words rather, they prefer using short words like “cuz” which is written formally as “because”, “D” which is formally written as “the”, “kip” which is formally written as “keep”, and so on. All these will bring down the standard of the vocabulary of the student because they will be texting like that consistently so it will be used to them even in class while doing one assignment or the other. However, that will result to some loss of marks which will bring the students grades down.

Thirdly, when assignments are given in the school, some students prefer copying straight from the internet, instead of generating their own ideas by themselves. They will prefer to steal another person’s work from the internet, instead of generating their own ideas themselves. They will prefer to steal another person’s idea from the internet without rephrasing it. At the end of the day, the student will be sanctioned for plagiarism and that will affect the student’s academic performance and also the student’s reputation because the instructor won’t regard the student as an honest student. In some cases, or schools where they don’t caution students for plagiarism, the student will continue copying from the internet and at the end of the day, the student won’t be able to produce an original work by themselves because they believe in copying another person’s idea.
Finally, students should not allow the convenience and effectiveness of the internet to affect their educational performance because it was invented as a support and not as a layback.
