One Japanese proverb says, “Beginning
is easy, continuing is hard”. We could relate to this when we write down notes
from a long presentation while the teacher talks about innumerable things. We
take our notebooks and start writing on it. Time passes and your hand aches.
You don’t know whether to continue writing it or not. From a legible
handwriting, it becomes unreadable later. We all know the struggle that we have
to go through just to get good notes. We even revise them for future tests.
It is so obvious that technology made
our duties so much easier and faster. Most schools involve technology in their
daily discussions. At first sight, these gadgets seem to give us more benefits
since it is easier to type with just pressing the keyboard than writing every
letter of the words. Most of these even have an auto correct function where the
computer changes your misspelled words and grammar. Students who type usually
make more but what they do is actually just “mindless transcription”. These students
keep on typing every word they hear without processing the information.
Taking down notes is more beneficial
than typing. Students would learn more when they write their own notes. When
writing, it is impossible to record every single word. That’s why this method
is more effective. Before writing, we think about the information first. Notes
become better when you apply comprehension, alertness, good handwriting, and
accuracy. And, these skills are developed at the same time. In this study,
advantages of writing notes over typing notes will be given highlight.
study aims to show that writing notes is a lot better than typing. Our group
wants to encourage laptop users who type notes to write them instead. We also
want the readers to know that typing is easier but there will be less retention
of memory. For future purpose, elementary and high school students will be
aware why they should still make handwritten notes in college even though they
are allowed to use electronic gadgets in class. It can also help these students
to have a better habit of taking notes during their class discussions.
This study aims to
answer the following questions:
1. What makes writing more effective than typing?
2. In what way writing and typing notes
3. What skills are improved when you make
on benefits of writing notes
aids for presentation
(everyone will help making it on January 10)
start this study, objectives and questions shall be kept in mind because these
will guide us in doing the research.
Further studies regarding the topic will be done. The collected data
will be organized, summarized, and paraphrased for better understanding. In order
to indicate more data in our final research paper, the group will hold a survey
involving the students of grade 8-Madasalin. It will be about the preference of
students when it comes to handwritten notes and typed notes. Here are some
questions that we plan to include:
Ø If you will be
given a chance to use your own electronic gadgets in class, would you still
write notes or type it using your gadget?
Ø Why did you choose
results of the survey will be organized in a table. Making a table helps the
researcher easily understand the data. The results will be analyzed in order
for the group to have our own interpretation. Giving our own interpretation is
essential because it leads to a better presentation.
conclude, this research basically determines the advantages of handwriting
notes over typing notes on a laptop. It will highlight the advantages and
disadvantages of each method and provide insight on how these differences
affect the way a student retains information. It will also help as a guide to
students to apply the same in their studies beyond elementary and high school.
preliminary survey will be conducted on Grade 8-Madasalin students to determine
their preference on note taking. Primary
questions to be asked are what will they choose to use as note taking method
and the reason they chose this method.
Results of these and other questions will be summarized, tabulated,
analyzed and presented to the class.
