Challenge Series – Show Report:

2014 Youth Challenge SeriesYouthSeriesPict

For the past five years The MBGA, Inc. has put on the wether series each year. This year the show committee has decided to freshen and advance the venue for 2014. We are completing this by changing the name to allow Market Does to compete against Market Wethers. This exciting change is going to open many doors for our youth and the learning opportunities that will be available to them.

The Youth Challenge will be made up of eight plus shows that are hosted in Michigan from May to July. Each youth participant also has the opportunity to earn additional points for early registration and participation in the largest livestock show in Michigan; Michigan Livestock Expo. Each show committee is given a set amount of money to sanction the show to support their individual show. The shows each allow us to advertise our sponsors, our association, and our rules at each show. In return they provide us with the standings of each show so that we can calculate standing for the Challenge.

The participants are awarded points based on their placing at each show. At the end of the season the MBGA, Inc. hosts an awards ceremony during our annual goat roast in the fall. This year the awards are set to be a pair of clippers, a show box, and an embroidered item for third place. The youth participants also receive awards for showmanship points across four age divisions in which twelve participants receive awards.

Depending on the location of the show there were as many as sixty goats entered at each show. Many of these participants also compete with other livestock species and many of the shows are multi specie venues.

Your donation or contribution would support the growth of the Boer Goat Industry in Michigan by encouraging our youth to continue on in the livestock business throughout their lifetime. Attached is a copy of the rules of the Youth Challenge which includes the schedule and a general sponsorship the letter explains what kind of advertising corporate sponsorships will receive. Thank you for your time and we look forward to working with you.
